Ensuring that candidates are educated on the importance of our industry is a central task of ASGA's pre-election preparation. Whoever wins in November will be visited several times from when they announce their candidacy to when they are sworn in in 2023. Beyond redistricting, midterm politics, being what they are, will likely not be kind to Democrats as the party in power. It is unclear how the president's bipartisan infrastructure win and Build Back Better agenda will play with voters in the fall. Infrastructure investments are badly needed, and the large federal investment will yield important improvements in everything from our local bridges and internet connections to energy grids and waterways. Many components of the Build Back Better plan are also popular with voters and have important wins for agriculture. Selling these provisions to the American people over the next 11 months will be a tall order for democrats. 2023 Farm Bill In the summer of 2021, your grower leaders began work on the sugar provisions of the next farm bill. We examined what has worked and not worked, what must be defended, and what, if any, tweaks should be made to the bill. There are analytical work to be done and recommendations to be made. This year is the time to get our homework done and be ready to execute our strategy in 2023. ASGA Annual Meeting Lastly, we hope you plan on attending the ASGA annual meeting. The 2022 ASGA Annual Meeting, entitled "Together Again to Shape Our Future," will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The focus will be on key issues for our industry in the year ahead, especially the 2023 Farm Bill. This is a great opportunity to catch up with fellow growers from across the country you have not seen over the last two years. The program promises to be insightful and comprehensive while adding in a lot of fun with multiple social engagements. n 4665-5DesertSunsetAg13s.indd 1 4665-5DesertSunsetAg13s.indd 1 11/30/21 1:54 PM 11/30/21 1:54 PM
