The Bling Ring
Coming SooN
Its been a good year for bad girlsso far...
August 5th
The previously austere Sofia
Coppola lets her hair down for
this summer's answer to Spring
Breakers; a sharp-witted satire
on our generation's relentless
fascination with fame and excess.
Based on the true story of a group of
teenagers who broke into the homes
of L.A.'s finest (including Megan Fox,
Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton),
The Bling Ring is an enjoyably frothy
addition to Coppola Jnr.'s canon.
These glam ragamuffins that
include a silver-tongued Emma
Watson and ringleader Katie Chang
utilize Google Maps and celebritystalking gossip sites in order to track
the whereabouts of their chosen
stars. Joining 'The Social Network'
in the rather elite group of films that
somehow make cinematic internetuse seem remotely entertaining,
the gang find liberation in the
omnipresent eye of the media even
when the tables are turned and their
crimes begin to catch-up with them.
'The Bling Ring' is brimming with
pointed dialogue and impressive
performances. Paris Hilton even
cameos, gleefully poking fun at her
dense public persona. Meanwhile,
Watson, with an intentionally
moronic valley girl accent in tow,
remains magical.
