20 FESTIVAL 16 www.guestlist.net Issue 53 / 2013 Standon calling @ Standon, Hertfordshire 3rd - 5th August For those who crave something different... Standon offers a festival experience unlike any other, with its fascinating past and unique taste in theme making it a real festival gem. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better in festival land. Standon Calling is a prime example of this as it's a relatively small festival with a capacity of around 5,000 people, allowing punters to experience the quaint intimacy of festival culture on a small, dignified scale. Hosted on Alex Trenchard's manor house grounds (about 40 minutes north of London), the first Standon Calling was started with a mere 25 guests and some decks, but has grown exponentially since then into the great festival it is today. Every year the festival has a new theme, with this year's being 'Running Away Guestlist.net From The Circus'. Proud of their family friendly vibe, the festival has lots of activities for youngsters like face painting and craft workshops to keep them entertained throughout the day. On top of this, there can't be many festivals around the UK that can boast hot air balloon rides, a swimming pool and a 6 o'clock music license, and of course lots of brilliant music! On the bill this year you will be able to catch Band of Skulls, Digitalism, Bastille, London Grammar, AlunaGeorge and many more brilliant acts. This festival is a true reflection of how us Brits like to have fun. Standon-calling.com Eastern Electrics @Knebworth park 2nd - 4th August "This year's festival looks like it could be the event that defines the dance music zeitgeist of 2013" - Trap Magazine After becoming the fastest selling electronic music festival in 2012, the powers behind Eastern Electrics decided it was time to reassess the festival's outlook. At their festival HQ, they looked into the crystal ball to see what they could conjure up for revellers this year and decided it was time to expand on a massive scale. With over 100 of the world's finest artists performing over the weekend including the likes of Maya Jane Coles and Hot Natured, the festival has combined with party brands such as Black Atlantic, Boiler Room, Crosstown Rebels Presents Rebel Rave, Dirtybird, Elrow, Futureboogie, Krankbrother, Krush Presents: Live At Robert Johnson vs Life & Death, LWE, Mulletover, and Secretsundaze to make sure that the possibilities at EE 2013 are endless. The organisers at Eastern Electrics eventually came to the conclusion that England is ready for something as big as Wonderland and Time Warp, but in order to expand they were going to have to relocate outside London and make this a fully-fledged camping festival. The chosen location is the legendary more for those willing to explore. The music will be playing non-stop during the weekend as the festival has a 24 hour arena to keep revellers entertained around the clock. Performances will be from 2pm to 6am on Friday and Saturday, and 12pm to 10pm on Sunday to offer an Knebworth Park will house bespoke epic 42 hours of musical adventure! stages and event production of the highest standard, including an Electric Easternelectrics.com City complex complete with roller disco, karaoke, dressing-up boudoir and plenty Knebworth Park which can be reached within half an hour from central London. It is an area steeped in musical heritage having hosted some of the biggest acts in the world on its grounds; so it seems the perfect setting for EE 2013.
