HOUSE / TECHNO 24 www.guestlist.net Guestlist Recommends: Peter and the magician Peter and the Magician is an exciting collaboration between two of electronic music's most talented stars. Peter and The Magician is a collaboration between electronic music producer Yuksek and former member of Aeroplane, The Magician. Their debut track as a duo, 'On My Brain' shows a real merging of the pairs talents, combining their contrasting influences to create one incredible single. The layered track is packed full of euphoric synths and has a clear 90's pop vibe attached to it. The duo's idea to bring in Sophie Galpin and her intoxicating vocals adds to the uplifting feel of the song. Sounding like a throwback to an old school disco classic, the songs added house vibe puts 'On My Brain' on par with the best dance tracks being released today. FunkinYou held their last event at Koko in Camden and decided to step their party up a notch by moving it to this techno / drum and bass fortress. Fire's F1 sound system and dark, sweaty environment was perfect for the 9 and a half hour dance marathon. Album of the month: Comfort Over the last couple of years, London-based DJ/producer Maya Jane Coles has become one of the biggest names in house music. After being voted 'Producer of the Year' by DJ Mag in 2011 and creating her own record label I/AM/ME in 2012, Maya Jane Coles is continuing her streak of success with the release of her debut album Comfort. Despite starting her career on a more hip-hop foot, Maya has continued to explore the deep-house vibes from her most recent EP's, a sound that we all know and love her for. Comfort is packed full of guest vocalists, including former Hercules & Love Affair member Kim Ann Foxman and Swedish singer Karin Park, who features on Maya's latest single 'Everything'. Tracks such as 'Easier To Hide' and 'Take A Ride' featuring Miss Kittin are layered on top of a low bass, with infec- tious beats and an unusual, yet enchanting feeling of space. 'Blame' featuring Nadine Shah follows these themes, however it also boasts an unexpected guitar intro that echoes sounds we would expect to hear from the likes of The XX. Comfort is an altogether brilliant example of what the multi-talented Maya has to offer. Judging by her debut album, we are sure her seemingly never-ending rise in popularity doesn't end here.
