commitment profile: Corey Holmes Sunshine State Pass Catcher Finds 'Best Fit' At Notre Dame By Tom Loy W hen Indianapolis Speedway wide receiver Justin Brent committed to Notre Dame in July 2012, the Irish landed a physical, strong, big-play threat in the passing game. On July 17, Notre Dame added a perfect complement to Brent in Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Corey Holmes, a quick, possession pass catcher with outstanding hands. The 6-2, 178-pound prospect committed to Notre Dame over offers from UCLA, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Stanford and many others. As a junior, he totaled 28 catches for 511 yards and five touchdowns. Holmes made the trip to South Bend from the Sunshine State four times, with his late June trip sealing the deal for a commitment. "I've been to South Bend so many times, and I've enjoyed every trip there," Holmes mentioned. "My latest trip was what made me realize that this was the best fit for me. The university itself, the campus, the facilities and the coaches are all top notch. I really don't understand why more big names don't come here. It's a school that you go to if you want to work hard and get to the next level, and get a great education. That's what I'm about. Holmes was close to committing during his June 22 trip to South Bend for Notre Dame's "Future Stars Camp." The Irish coaching staff laid out the red carpet and Holmes felt the love from the coaches and current players alike. However, the talented receiver wanted to take a little more time prior to making his decision. "I wanted to visit UCLA, since I love being in California," Holmes told BluenandGold.com. "Los Angeles is my favorite city in the entire country. I love being out there. In the end, it just wasn't the best fit for me. I felt at home at Notre Dame.
