• 11 • Student Spotlight is a third year veterinary student at TAMU College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Denton, TX, Mr. McClanahan's post- graduation goals include working at an equine referral practice in Texas. His hobbies and interests outside of veterinary medicine include spending time at dinner and playing games with friends, staying active in my local church and hanging out with my wife Jess. I enjoy spending time outdoors, golfing, backpacking, and cooking. Sam says, "I love anytime we as students get to interact with equine veterinarians, and especially appreciate when they have taken the time to come to College Station to encourage us in what we are doing and talk to us about what to look forward to." Growing up I had little to no exposure to horses. During high school my plan was to pursue a career in engineering until my bible study leader, Dr. Cole Sciba, brought up the idea of equine medicine. The idea definitely intrigued me although I knew nothing of the veterinary or equine world, but after spending time shadowing at his hospital I was hooked. It took a couple years to feel like I was not an outsider in the equine world, but the more I learn about equine medicine, the more it cements that this is what I want to do for a career.
