28 SPRING 2022 "T HE OWNERS WANTED TO SEE THE VIEW THAT FIRST attracted them to the house," says Carly Blackmore, summing up the motivation for reconfiguring the first floor of this quintessential antique in Old Town, Marblehead. Said view is Marblehead Light, the iconic landmark that sits across the harbor. As California transplants, the family also craved sunlight and airiness. "The rooms were a jumble of little, closed boxes," says the founder of Habitat Design. Upon entry, a visitor lands in a vestibule at the bottom of the central stairway. To the left, the narrow area opened to a living space beleaguered with dark, heavy beams that were added in the nineties.
