NO SEAT, NO PROBLEM The 2021 Ironman Champ Takes His First Pro Moto Unlimited Win By Dan Sanchez, Gabriel Garcia, Paul Hanson, and Jose Vazquez Photos by Get Some Photo It wasn’t long after the last four-wheel vehicle left the starting line, that Juan Carlos Salvatierra on the 10x bike came riding up the finish line ramp to win the Pro Moto Unlimited Class. Also remarkable was the fact that the team’s KTM 450SX-F was missing the seat and several other components after one of the team members crashed. “Shane (Logan) had a fall at about mile 170, but he was okay,” said Salvatierra. “The bike had lots of damage including knocking off the seat. I had to ride my section of the course without a seat all the way here to the finish line.” For the win in the Pro Moto Unlimited Class and the Overall Moto win, Salvatierra might have ridden the bike in any condition to reach his goals. The 2021 SCORE Pro Moto Ironman Champion decided to move into the Pro Moto Unlimited class this season, after winning two Ironman championships and nearly finishing every race in first place. “This is my third year competing in SCORE and I am a two-time Pro Moto Ironman Champion,” said Salvatierra. “This year, we started Chavo Salvatierra Racing and came to SCORE with this 10x KTM bike, along with Shane Logan and Arturo Salas as co-riders. Our goal is to win the races but to also win a championship in this class.” Salvatierra became one of only a few Latin Americans to win in SCORE’s Pro Moto Unlimited and is proud to win in honor of his country, Bolivia. “It’s an honor to win this for my teammates and country,” he said. “I’m also thankful for my teammates who also did an amazing job. Arturo started well and quickly got our team into first place, then he built a good gap for us. Shane had the crash but he also did well to bring me the bike. I had the final section of the whoops and the rocks. It’s a course that always requires riders to be physically fit and extremely aware of everything. We prepared well and I’m very thankful for my mechanics and my co-riders.” SJ
