SCORE INTERNATIONAL SUPPORTS THE CASTRO-LIMÓN FOUNDATION The Castro-Limón Foundation gives the hope of life to children with Cancer in Mexico, Honduras and the U.S. With the help of hundreds of donors, the Foundation has been able to build the Oncological Pediatric Center of Baja California, the first installation of its kind in Mexico that specializes in integral care for small children and adolescents with Cancer. The Center has given over 300,000 free services benefiting 286 families that have required help, and has registered 98 patients that have been declared cancer free. Today the Castro-Limón Foundation cares for 66 patients that receive free integral treatment, hospitalization, surgeries, medicines, laboratory analysis, medical appointments, physiological and nutritional care, spiritual support and costs for transportation. In order to cover the costs of the 66 patients the Castro-Limón Foundation organizes different programs and events such as “Running in Color” in September, “Day of the Dead” in the Guadalupe Valley, a Bike Ride in March, etc. The second edition of “Baja California with Quimio” will take place to help dozens of young children and adolescents with Cancer by organizing various activities to donate one or more Quimios. In the past many Baja Californians joined by offering everything from car washes, bathing dogs and pets, to selling food in order to donate for a Quimio for children and adolescents with Cancer. This new starting order will begin with the BFGoodrich Tires 55th SCORE Baja 500 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts, June 1-5th 2022. POLARIS MEXICO CREATES BAJA SUPPORT TEAM 2021 saw the birth of Polaris Racing Mexico chapter of its Factory Racing program, sponsoring three different Mexican teams. At this year’s 35th SCORE San Felipe 250, Polaris Mexico created the Polaris Baja Support Team, a specialized pit stop with Polaris certified techs helping all teams and offering free services. Some of the services offered were radio coms, refueling, visual check, tire changes, and drive belt changes. Bill Mears Patriarch of “The Mears Gang” Passes Away The Mears family announced that their patriarch Bill Mears, (age 93) passed away on Sunday, March 27th in Bakersfield, California. Mears started racing in 1946 on dirt tracks in Kansas and moved to Bakersfield in 1955. His sons Roger and Rick Mears became famous off-road racers and were dubbed the “Mears Gang.” Bill and his son Rick drove Parnelli Jones’ Chevy truck to a 1977 Baja 500 win. Bill’s grandson Roger Jr. also has class wins in SCORE Baja races, and most recently Casey Mears has driven in two SCORE Baja 1000 races and is a former NASCAR and Indy Car racer. SCORE Veteran Racer Larry Connor Heads Into Space SCORE Baja racer and Team-C Racing owner Larry Connor was one of the first private-mission crew members aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9. The Axiom Space’s Axiom Mission 1 launched on April 8, 2022, and docked onto the International Space Station. "I believe space is the last great frontier,” Connor said in a statement. “I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of this historic mission.” The crew remained aboard the ISS for eight days participating in research and philanthropic projects before returning back to earth. Connor drove a SCORE race in 2019 and aside from racing and being an off-road team owner, he is the founder and managing partner of The Connor Group, a real estate investment firm in Ohio. Connor is also an accomplished pilot and diver.
