48 Student Spotlight is a first-year student in the inaugural class of the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo, Texas. She is originally from Des Moines, New Mexico, where she grew up on her family's cow-calf operation. Her background is large animal and she has found a strong passion for equine medicine with her experiences in equine clinics over the last few years. She was recently elected President of Texas Tech's new student AAEP chapter and is excited to get the ball rolling and get the chapter involved with TEVA. She is currently heading into the path of equine or mixed-animal medicine. Thanks for being a part of TEVA, Makenna! She can be reached at mhittson@ttu.edu. ATTENTION TEVA MEMBERS: In attempt to help connect our TEVA Student Membership with internships and externships available with our DVM members, we are building a database that will be available on our website. MAKENNA HITTSON is an equine-tracking, third-year student at Texas A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Waxahachie, Texas, Manuel says, "I started riding horses when I was 6 years old and I eventually started competing in Mexican rodeos." In addition to veterinary medicine he enjoys playing and watching various sports, competing in rodeos, and spending time with family and friends. His plans for after graduation include doing an equine internship to further expand his skills as a veterinarian. After becoming more well rounded, he says he would like to join an equine practice in either North or Central Texas." Manuel is the SCAAEP-Job Fair Chair for the SCAAEP Wet Lab. When asked what his favorite experience has been in VETMED, he said. "I can't really pick one, all my externships have been a lot of fun. Each practice that I've visited has taught me something different from client communication to watching a horse go during a lameness exam. Most importantly these externships have reassured me that I definitely want to be an equine veterinarian. Thanks for being a part of TEVA, Manuel! He can be reached at msifuentes@cvm.tamu.edu. MANUEL SIFUENTES JOIN US Thursday evening for the student meet and greet during the welcome reception!
