Door County R ecently I was invited to tour a Great Lakes destination, and while I didn't get to choose where it was, I'm grateful that someone did. I can now say I've seen paradise. Let me introduce you to your new dream vacation. You'll find stunning state parks with spectacular views, excellent cuisine of all varieties, fascinating local culture and history and access to hundreds of miles of beautiful shoreline. Welcome to Door County, Wis. I recently took a tour of this garden pen- insula and discovered there was much more to see and do than I could possibly experi- ence, even if I were to stay for months (and I wish I could have). In my time there, I got a taste of this unique community with its rich maritime history and thriving artisan scene. Here I'll give you a peek into my Door County experience with a sampling of the places I toured. I highly recommend you visit them the next time you find yourself in the area. STURGEON BAY, THURSDAY EVENING Door County is an 80-mile long pen- insula made up of 19 different villages, each with its own unique character and offerings. Sturgeon Bay is easily the most active and bustling of the communities and is considered the hub of the county.
