USIndoor Association Update Planning for 2003 ndoor soccer continued its rapid growth during 2002, despite the economic downturn, and appears poised for another eventful year in 2003. The United States Indoor Soccer Association's statistics estimate a 15% increase in the opening of indoor soccer facilities and about a little over 20% average annual growth during the past eleven years. All this to say that indoor soccer is riding a wave of popularity that we predict will bring opportunities for existing facilities and offer a wealth of experience on which new facilities can build. Our goal, at USIndoor, of course, will be to continue to uncover those opportunities and efficiencies in order to reduce our facility and corporate members' costs of doing business and to develop programming that will enable new, or fortify accustomed, revenue sources. Not including the National Indoor Championship, futsal, Street Soccer Cup, Soccer in the Streets, and other variations on indoor soccer, viable in their own right, we conservatively estimate that indoor soccer is a $275 million industry. True, we may be considered small and still in our infancy, but merely by maintaining its previous rate of growth, revenue figures for indoor soccer stand to increase many times over the next several years. Through USIndoor's development of national programs to be shared among its members, we expect even greater results. I by Don Shapero, president On the revenue side, we introduced the USIndoor Network at the 2002 Facility Operator's Conference last September. It is designed to attract national sponsorship in the areas of consumer sampling and advertising. Members interested in participating will first need to complete an application, available online or directly from USIndoor. We recently entered into an agreement with Vending Machine Services, which has brought returns already to many of our facility members. Lastly, we are hard at work to develop a national player or member card program with a multitude of financial and marketing benefits. So when will all of these plans materialize? As introduced at our 2002 Facility Operators' Conference, we expect the USIndoor Network to begin to see returns in the middle of this year. The vending program has already been productive. As to the rest, except for a lucky few to be selected for pilot programs, the offerings will come more toward the end of 2003 and 2004, with formal introductions at the 2003 Conference. Rest assured, we are working hard for the indoor soccer industry and for all of our members. You can help by renewing your annual membership in a timely fashion and by continuing to support our various programs and corporate members and by providing feedback on how we can improve what we do for you. Thank you and Happy New Year! Membership Report Revenue Programs Facility Member Count: 166 We at USIndoor have many goals for 2003: (1) internally, in terms of its own operation and public perception; (2) toward improving the quality and promotion of the game; and (3) as a trade association for facility and corporate members. Hopefully, by this time next year, the changes respecting Item 1 will be clear. Item 2 remains a long-term goal, with the results not likely to be readily observed over the short term. Nonetheless, through initiatives involving such publications as GOAL Indoor magazine and through dogged persistence in the areas of referee training, rules of the game and coaching programs, we, with member support, can begin to make a difference. Perhaps the most significant advance we hope to achieve lies in the area of member benefits that effect the bottom line of our members. So far, our most successful administrative program has been in insurance. We expect to build on this successful program by introducing employee management services, like payroll and benefits plans, during 2003.
