his simultaneous active involvement with the local coach has SocCourt Catching outdoor soccer program. Theteams of been using wall soccer with entire s new sports grow in popularity, certain locations across the country tend to surface as "hot spots" for these sports. These hot spots gravitate players together and they feed off each other to advance their skills. Bruce Burkland, a court sports coordinator and racquetball pro in Colorado, knows that principle very well. In the early stages of the racquetball boom, he witnessed the rise of outstanding players in San Diego and St. Louis. Now Burkland believes the same thing is happening for SocCourt Wall Soccer. This new game is basically a cross between racquetball and soccer. It's played like soccer with racquetball rules. Right now the hot spots for SocCourt appear to be in California and Iowa, but Burkland, who now actively plays SocCourt, plans to change that. The Goodson Recreation Center features eight indoor racquetball courts and has developed a very extensive junior wall soccer program. Over 50 kids a week participated in leagues last winter. There is an active roster of adults as well, and they really enjoy both the singles and doubles game. English import Mike Baldwin is the official SocCourt coach at Goodson and has been instrumental in developing the program. Coach Baldwin is a major SocCourt figure in Colorado because of A players to refine and develop skills used for "regular" soccer. While indoor wall soccer may be considered more of a winter sport, Goodson is already planning for the upcoming Fall/Winter season. From October to March they are planning 8 leagues for youngsters, kids & adults. With such a great first season already in the books, the upcoming year promises to fantastic. Because of their active involvement with the sport and strong player base, the Goodson Rec. Center has also been chosen to host the 2nd Annual Wall Soccer Nationals. The National tournament date is set for March 79, 2003 in Centennial, Colorado, which is a suburb of Denver. Burkland and Baldwin will both act as the upcoming national tournament directors, and they both have their sights set on a national title as well. Burkland will have to rely on his racquetball background, whereas Baldwin (the favorite) will utilize his semi-pro soccer skills from England. More Information: Bruce Burkland at the Goodson Rec.
