On the topic of persistence, the attack on pesticides remains relentless. These challenges come from congressional legislation, the regulatory process and the courts. It's not just attacks on glyphosate, chlorpyrifos, dicamba, atrazine, paraquat and neonicotinoids. Multiple farm worker and environmental groups have now petitioned EPA to request that the agency revoke all tolerances and cancel all associated registrations for food uses for an entire class of chemicals known as organophosphates. The workload to fight these efforts is significant. Some of these issues we work on solely as a beet sugar industry and other times in much broader coalitions where we all have similar views. If agriculture is to be progressive to meet the sustainability objectives that benefit the climate, we have to have the tools to accomplish those goals. As we look to 2023, we have a lot of big issues on our plate. The 2023 ASGA annual meeting will be held Jan. 29 -31 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC, which is two blocks from the White House. We will have key agricultural leaders from the Senate and House of Representatives to talk about the upcoming farm bill. High level officials from the administration who oversee various aspects of managing sugar policy will attend. They need to see and hear from you. We will also be looking at what the future holds for many of the inputs we use for production. In addition to informative meetings there are dozens of museums and sites to visit. Registration will open the first week of November so check our website at americansugarbeet.org. n PULLER RINGS FOR SUGARBEET HARVESTERS DEALERS WANTED 4669-1 HCL112.indd 1 4669-1 HCL112.indd 1 2/16/22 12:04 PM 2/16/22 12:04 PM
