The perfect partners to team up with on the pond, and, if you're lucky, on a youth hockey team or two. Maybe even high school. Noah and Jackson Cates have been fortunate enough to be teammates at nearly every level. It started in Stillwater, continued in Duluth, and has carried them to the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers. And while there's plenty of com - petition between the two siblings, for the most part, the Cates brothers have focused on being teammates in every respect of the word. " We'll compete obviously in our drills when we're going against each other, but a lot of times we're just passing to each other to work on our shoot - ing, helping each other in dif- ferent aspects," explained Noah, who is little more than 16 months Jackson's junior. "It's kind of like having a built-in coach. We help each other out in different aspects, and give each other pointers." "Growing up we really complemented each other," added Jackson. "It was just playing together for years in the base - ment. I was always the center, he was always my left winger. So for years and years of playing center and he was my winger, we just learned how to comple- ment each other. It turned out he was strong on the walls and I was always try- ing to get open for him off the walls so we could make a play up the middle. "We just built off that and grew our games together." S
