Fishing enthusiasts can cast a line off the Back River Fishing Pier before dinner and drinks (and homemade Key lime pie!) at A-J's Dockside Restaurant. RIPTIDE & SANDBAR SAFETY Follow these important safety tips: BREAK THE GRIP OF THE RIP If you get caught in a rip current, break free by swimming parallel to shore, outside the current. Once free, swim to shore. If you cant escape tread water or oat until help arrives. STEER CLEAR OF SANDBARS Sandbars on the south end of Tybee Island are surprisingly dangerous. Although they look safe to walk out on, the timing and depth of water at high and low tide varies drastically around the island. Avoid the sandbars at all times for your safety and the safety of local lifeguards. You can be fi ned up to 000 if you wal wade or swim to the South Beach sandbar. MIND THE TIDE Keep the tides in mind while boating, kayaking and paddleboarding; venturing out at low tide can get your vessel stuck or stranded. Check tide tables and charts online via websites like NOAA (tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov), or download the Tides app for reference on the go.
