Birchmeier established himself early as a wanted man, racking up offers from all over the country after starting as a freshman in 2019. Penn State was the third school to come along with a scholarship in February 2020. The floodgates opened after a stel- lar sophomore season, and by the fol- lowing summer he had every option he could have wanted. Instead of fleshing it out, however, Birchmeier decided to take another path. By the summer of 2021, he was feeling right at home with the Nittany Lions. Birchmeier was sold on Penn State from the beginning stages of his recruitment, announcing for the Nittany Lions in July 2021.
