WWW.SUGARPRODUCER.COM 23 At The Andersons, our focus is on providing safe and profitable solutions for growers. We formulate, store, and distribute nutrients through our strategically located facilities and extensive dealer network. With trusted third-party research partners, we've been able to test our products' seed safety and impact to yield for sugarbeets. SUPERIOR CROP SAFETY & INCREASED SUGAR CONTENT The Andersons Season Pass® Plus with MicroCarb® features essential nutrients and a carbon source to maximize early season growth. The low-salt formulation tested is 100% orthophosphate, maximizing crop safety for in-furrow use. In a third-party study, when Season Pass Plus with MicroCarb was used at planting, less than a half of a percent reduction in stand counts was observed. The Andersons Korrect®, a highly available mild form of potassium, was applied with the first CLS spray. This combination resulted in an increase of 17 pounds of sugar content over the check. 260 270 280 290 300 RECOVERABLE WHITE SUGAR PER ACRE NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM Grower Standard Grower Standard, Season Pass® Plus with MicroCarb® (4 gal) In-Furrow, Korrect® (1 gal) with 1st CLS Spray +17.0 P5-2020 For more information and to download The Andersons High Yield Program for sugarbeets, visit AndersonsPlantNutrient.com/SugarBeets. Costs for items like wages, machinery, land, chemicals, fertilizer, fuel, etc., have increased substantially. 6. Processing costs have increased. Our industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars each year for maintenance and capital expenditures. Personnel costs to attract and retain employees are also increasing. 7. Farmers face the most risk of anyone in the supply chain due to weather, disease and beet storage issues. 8. Farmers and USDA invest in research at nine USDA stations and 10 universities to tackle numerous challenges to produce stronger, healthier and more productive beets. We need additional innovation in seed breeding and pesticides to address our production challenges. 9. We must attract labor for our farms and factories that are trainable and affordable. 10. Sugar must compete against returns for other crops that are less costly with lower risks and easier to grow. 11. We need a strong industry so that our children have the desire and economic incentive to continue this industry for decades to come. 12. Beet growers need strong trade policy, farm policy and a well-run program that provides adequate returns from the marketplace. Any efforts to weaken these policies will only drive more producers out of business to the detriment of our food security. No one else is ready, willing or able to do what we do. No one else understands what it's like to dig mud out of lifter wheels at 2 a.m. in 38 degree F weather. The men and women of this industry produce enough sugar each year to feed all the people in 142 of the largest cities in the U.S … twice. It is simply amazing what you do. It is our job to tell that story and get the support needed to sustain our industry. The nation owes you a big thank you. When hundreds of congressional offices hear these messages from you grower leaders, it makes a huge impression. We thank them for the time and effort they take to do this important work. n
