THE 2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD ZR2 A Refined Off-Road Package Offers More Capability By Elijah Sanchez Photos Courtesy Chevrolet Trucks The new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison build on the Silverado HD’s already impressive lineup of HD truck features to take the off-road capabilities to another level with race-proven new features, including improved trailering and cargo capabilities and Multimatic DSSV dampers. Director of Chevrolet Trucks Marketing, Michael MacPhee, stated, “The all-new Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison provide the off-road performance our customers have come to expect from a ZR2, with the towing and payload capabilities our HD customers demand.” According to Chevrolet, this expansion of the Silverado lineup offers customers more options to find the perfect vehicle to balance every-day work and use without sacrificing off-roading capability. Factory Off-Road Capability With new off-road focused features, the HD ZR2 includes an Off-Road Mode to adjust vehicle calibrations, including the anti-lock brakes and traction and stability control, for peak off-road optimization. The Off-Road Mode also alters throttle progression, transmission shifts, and a non-speed limited rear axle. The factory front suspension includes standard front upper and lower control arms with steering knuckles, but with GM’s Multimatic DSSV Dampers. A large steel transfer case skid plate and front aluminum skid plate, rear e-locker, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT Tires mounted on 18 x 9-inch aluminum wheels to round out the off-road components. The HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison also have a stance that is raised approximately 1.5 inches in the front and rear compared to previous Silverado HD 4WD models. From trailering a camper to hauling heavy equipment, the Silverado HD ZR2 is meant to be an excellent option for those who want versatility without sacrificing capability. With a 6.6L V-8 gas engine, the Silverado HD ZR2 has a max payload of 3,397 pounds2. When equipped with an available 6.6L V-8 Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine, its max trailering increases to 18,500 pounds3. With all the capability upgrades, the HD ZR2 maintains the classic, recognizable exterior of the Silverado lineup but is unique with its curving wheel-opening moldings with integrated mudguards. Race-Proven Multimatic DSSV Dampers Chad Hall Racing helped put the Silverado HD ZR2’s new racing-derived Multimatic spool-valve dampers to the test, using them in various off-road racing series. The upgraded and unique three-separate spool-valve design of the HD ZR2 offers unlimited tuning adaptability for more precise damping control and performance. In the 2019 season, Hall took first place in the stock 3700 class in the Colorado ZR2 and has continuously proven its formidable off-road racing capabilities. AEV Off-Road Collaboration In collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the HD ZR2 Bison adds even more to the HD ZR2’s stock features to provide a factory-ready off-road package, including 18-inch AEV wheels, a high-cut stamped-steel front and rear bumper, stamped steel skid plates under the front, steering rack, exhaust, and transfer case, and a unique AEV logo on the front-seat head restraints. The HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison also feature the Silverado HD’s DuraBed cargo box, corner step rear bumper, BedSteps, power tailgate, 120-volt power outlet, and available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate. A Reimagined And Roomy Interior Combining work-ready functionality with technological upgrades, the HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison also feature the 2024 Silverado HD lineup’s redesigned interior for a blend of luxury materials and off-road practicality. The interior is trimmed with dark accents to complement the Jet Black and Graystone leather surfaces. To maintain the premium look, the interior’s materials were carefully selected to be easy to wipe clean after a day of hitting a rocky, dusty trail. The interior’s centerpiece is a best-in-class 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center. An available 15-inch Head-Up Display with an off-road inclinometer and HD Surround Vision adds even more formidable off-road tools to the driver’s command center. For even more functionality, a wireless phone charger area and flow-under console were redesigned to optimize the efficient use of the interior space, which features plenty of head, leg, shoulder, and hip room for maximum comfort. Pricing And Production Pricing for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison will be announced later this summer when production begins. With the success and popularity of the previous ZR2 models, the HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison will certainly continue to prove Chevrolet is a commendable competitor amongst heavy-duty off-road pickups. SJ
