While the food was incredible, the Hawg Smoke Café was an immersive experience that lasted for hours. Seating was family style and so were the servings. If you were lucky enough to be seated with finicky eaters, then it meant seconds might be possible. Once dinner was completed, musicians would entertain the lucky guests for hours. Because of the intimate setting it was almost like a jam session. It was the kind of eclectic setting with unique food and colorful chef that Anthony Bourdain could have easily just let a camera roll and shot an entire episode of No Reservations. Unfortunately, Chef Musgrave was forced to shut down the Hawg Smoke while he was fighting cancer. Sadly, he lost that battle and the café never reopened. Fortunately for those folks seeking a unique dining experience Idaho Falls still has a few restaurants where the chefs do more than cook, they create experiences for the palate. For something a little different than your aver- age franchise fare visit Roberto at the Park Avenue Grill, Heather at e Bee's Knees Pub, Jay at D' Railed Gastropub, or Jud & Shandi at the Cop- per Rill. Just like Hawg Smoke, it is the personal touches these chefs give to every dish that make it a dining experience, not just a meal. IF WWW.IDAHOFALLSMAGAZINE.COM 53
