T
he rink floor replacement project is
progressing as planned at 3M Arena at
Mariucci. The home of the University of
Minnesota Gophers men's hockey team has
been under construction since March.
Two key components of the project include:
• Replacing a 30-year-old refrigeration system from a direct
flooded system to an ammonia indirect ice plant, which will serve both
Mariucci Arena and Ridder Arena, the home of the Gopher women's
hockey team next door.
• Shrinking the size of the ice sheet from 100' x 200' (Olympic)
to 89' x 200'. The 20' radius corners were also changed to 22'. Upon
completion, two rows with approximately 250 seats will be added to the
10,000-seat capacity facility.
The project is scheduled for completion October 1.
