VETERINARY STUDENTS
We simply could not have had such a successful meeting
without the overwhelming support that we received from
our student volunteers. On Friday evening during our Gala,
we host a fundraiser where the students recruit donations
to "fill their bucket." The school with the most money in
their bucket at the conclusion wins. This year we had 13
Oklahoma State CVM students. We had 25 TAMU CVM
students. We had 27 Texas Tech SVM students. We had six from Missouri. We had one Washington State student. The schools with the
larger delegations were able to quickly amass support from the audience as there were plenty of alumni to solicit donations from. But
what we did not see coming, was the support that our lone Washington State student, Madi Gray, was about to raise. As Madi stood in
the middle of the dance floor, representing her entire school on her own, and amazing things began to happen. As the auctioneer called
for contributions to Madi's bucket - slowly at first, but then all of a sudden, the entire group of 71 students from the various schools
joined behind Madi to support her. They all quickly realized that they'd made a friend in Madi that week, and no friend of TEVA's should
have to stand in front of everyone else, alone.
As an organization, I hope that above all else, we leave these students with this lasting impression. We are a place that fosters
collegiality. We are overwhelmingly grateful for the impact that Madi made on our association simply by coming to TEVA and
being who she is. We hope that the bond formed among this group of students is something they will continue into their careers as
veterinarians and that they can always lean on their TEVA friends and TEVA network as they move forward into equine medicine.
The funds raised during the "fill the bucket" challenge go toward paying the expenses of these students to attend the Symposium. Our
goal is to be able to fund their entire trip to TEVA and we do so with the funds raised by the Texas Equine Foundation. If you would like
