The Remuda | Fall 2023 Edition 32 32 Page 32 | TELLING OUR STORY | Gig Em and Dixie Wheat Back Home | the foaling plans, and made contingencies for any possible problems, we bonded over a mutual love of the horse. We admired his beautiful sweet mare and swooned over his handsome retired race geldings. For me personally, my love of Quarter Running Horses came from my Daddy. He studied the bloodlines, planned the crosses, and always saw infinite potential in each foal. Dr Kieffer and my Daddy share that love of running horses and both get that spark in their eyes when they talk about them. Dr. Kieffer now raises Thoroughbreds, but their love of the running horse is the same. Dr. Kieffer and I have talked about being at the track to watch the Triple Crown races and follow his 2023 runner as he goes "all the way." I will be there! Dr. Kieffer has raised and raced many good horses. His Champion Quarter running mare Pass Over was inducted into the Texas Racing Hall of Fame before Dr. Kieffer made it in. She was born on Easter Sunday and by the great stallion Pass Em Up. He has served the Thoroughbred industry in many capacities, most notably as the Chairman of the Texas Equine Research Account Advisory Committee and as a Director of the Texas Thoroughbred Association. "This is one of the many unexplainable reasons for why I am thankful that I chose to become an Equine Veterinarian." - Dr. Easterwood | Dr. Kieffer and I |
