The Remuda | Fall 2023 Edition 9 Greetings colleagues! I hope that you all made it through the summer without heat stress or anhydrosis! We were thrilled at how well the symposium pulled together and appreciate the fantastic turnout that we had. Additionally, all of the speakers spoke praise about what a great organization and members that we have. To date, that was the largest symposium we have hosted: 180 Veterinarians, 24 technicians, 75 students, and four prevet students. We also raised more money than ever to support the Texas Equine Foundation, $150,152! Thank you all for donating to help us support the students, disaster relief, and the incredible strides the foundation is making in supporting the longevity of this profession. Going forward, we welcome our newest board members, Dr. Sam Crosby and Dr. Ricci Karkula. We have one more year on our contract at the Worthington in Fort Worth and then will likely be headed back to Horseshoe Bay for the following year's symposium. For our boutique meeting, we are still in discussions on the location. We also welcome our President-Elect, Dr. Michelle Bessire, who is organizing the 2024 Veterinary Symposium and our Vice President, Dr. David Stephens, who is organizing the technician aspect of the 2024 Symposium. I know they will put together a stellar learning opportunity for us all. I recently took over the reins as the President of TEVA and am very humbled and honored to follow the path of so many incredible leaders. I wanted to use this opportunity to explain how the election process for the board of directors works. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Sara Green (sara@texasequineva.com) or one of the committee chairs if you have an interest in being on one of the committees. The nominating committee accepts nominations for the Board of Directors from the active members in the early spring. The committee then narrows down the candidates through a series of votes and presents its nominees to the Board of Directors for voting. Then the nominating committee votes on a new vice president from the list of those who have successfully completed a term on the Board of Directors. The positions start at the Symposium each year. The vice president starts a four-year term whereby they then becomes president-elect, president, and then immediate past-president in consecutive years. Thank you again for your support of this amazing organization and the horses of Texas. Respectfully, Piper Norton, DVM, DACVIM A Message from the Point PRESIDENT PIPER NORTON, DVM, DACVIM
