AN INTERNATIONAL GATHERING A Historical Race Brings Worldwide Attention And Competitors By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo The final race of SCORE’s 50th Anniversary Celebration was a historical event that attracted 335 racers from all parts of the world. Many wanted to challenge the second-longest race in SCORE’s history (1310.94 miles) that also started for the first time in La Paz and ended in Ensenada. Aside from the numerous racers from the United States and the host country of Mexico, racers came from Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, France, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Netherlands, Peru, Spain, and Venezuela. US/Australian Team-up Among some of the international racers from countries other than the U.S. and Mexico, who finished the race, included Australians Paul Weel and Toby Price, who co-drove with Larry Roeseler in the No. 43 Baja Vida SCORE Trophy truck. The two had competed together all season in their own No. 46 SCORE Trophy Truck, but due to vehicle issues plaguing them, they were not able to finish a race. As teammates with Roeseler, they had their first finish of the season in seventh place. “We’re happy to be at the finish line,” said Price. “Larry did an amazing job holding it together and got us back up within the field. This is our first finish in a year and a half. We wanted to be a bit further up, but we’re happy to be here.” Jaos Japan Team In Stock Full, the No. 8188 Jaos Lexus SUV driven by Tomonori Noto of Japan, competed in the SCORE Baja 1000 in previous years. In this year’s race, however, the course was too tough for the team, and they stopped to help other teams in need along the way, causing them to not finish the course in the allotted time. Although they officially posted a DNF the entire team celebrated completing the course.
