56 Racers Up For 2023 Rod Hall Milestone Award Presented by Toyota Escondido A record 56 racers competing during the 2023 SCORE World Desert Championship Season, completed a total of 2451.78 miles to earn a prestigious 2023 Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by Toyota Escondido. “SCORE is privileged to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers and riders,” said Jim Ryan, SCORE Vice-President of Marketing and Sales. “For nearly four decades, SCORE has been very humbled to honor racers with the Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by Toyota Escondido. SCORE racers are the toughest, most rugged racers on the planet. This most prestigious award has become iconic in our sport. The event will commemorate the 2023 SCORE World Desert Championship and the first 50 years of the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. PT for admission into the museum, followed by a pre-awards reception at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and presentations starting at 7:30 p.m. Online tickets are available for the event priced at $89 per adult, a table for eight at $712, and children under 12 years old at $69. Ticket sales will close at 5 p.m. PT on Friday, January 12, 2024. There will be no ticket sales at the door. SCORE MOURNS PASSING OF MIKE STAPELTON Mike Stapleton, legendary mechanic and crew member of SCORE multi-time champion Wilson Motorsports, passed away on December 1, 2023. Stapleton worked for more than 20-years with one of the greatest families in the history of motorsports before passing after a lengthy battle with cancer. Stapleton was well-known and well-respected in the desert racing community, and was a three-time SCORE Mechanic Of The Year (2001, 2009, 2012). Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone at Wilson Motorsports. “Mikey was a remarkable individual whose kindness, humor, and generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him,” said the Wilson Motorsports team in a post. “He had an ability to bring joy and laughter to any situation, and his genuine and caring nature made him a true friend to many.” Gabriel Garcia Honored SCORE Live Stream announcer, and Podio Media MX reporter Gabriel Garcia, was honored recently as Ensenada Sports Writer Of The Year. He was presented an award by Ensenada Mayor Armando Ayala at the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada, Mexico. Garcia has covered all types of sports events for more than 20-years, through the El Viga Newspaper, his own Podia Media website, and most recently as SCORE Social Media correspondent, and co-announcer duties with Rat Sult, during SCORE races.
