CLASSROOM TO CLASS CHAMPIONS The Vera Brothers Fulfill Their Childhood Dream By Gabriel Garcia As children in El Rosario, Baja California, brothers Francisco Vera and Alexis Vera used to walk out of their elementary school classrooms to watch the race cars go by during the SCORE Baja 1000. Today, they are among some of the top figures in SCORE International racing and were crowned the 2023 SCORE International World Desert Champions for Class 10. With three podium finishes in a row, including a pair of wins in the SCORE Baja 500 and SCORE Baja 400, the Vera brothers added another with their third-place finish in the 2023 SCORE Baja 1000. “Racing for the first time in a Class 10 was something totally different to what I was used to,” said Francisco Vera. “It was a learning experience throughout the year and it was a wild adventure for us. But I have to thank the whole team for their part in making this a championship season.” A key person in the achievements of the Vera Bros Racing team was their mechanic and manager, Alejandro Corona Rosas, from ASR Race Prep, who worked the pit logistics and was also the co-driver in the No. 1091 Alumicraft buggy during the SCORE Baja 1000. It was a work of several people to get the number 1000 as Class Champions for the 2024 season. Many of them friends, some of them from Baja California, and others from Nuevo Leon, who joined a family project, which already has a few years that stretches back to a time when the team previously raced 4-wheel Quads. The next challenge for the Veras is to defend their Baja 1000 title successfully. They confirmed their participation in all four dates of the Score World Desert Championship in 2024, where they will be carrying not only the Mexican flag in their team, but also representing El Rosario in the deserts of Baja California— the place where they were born, grew up, and dreamed of being off-road racers— a dream that is now a reality as new champions of Class 10.
