Mirage of Destiny recounts the Minnesota North Stars' dramat-
ic, and ultimately heartbreaking, season of 1990-91 when they
became the team with the worst regular season record of any
major sports league to play for a championship. While the team's
Cinderella run may have ended in defeat at the hands of Mario
Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 of the Stanley
Cup Final, the lives of the players, coaches, and staff continued
on. The second half of the book follows up on most of the people
involved in that memorable season, with interviews of head
coach Bob Gainey and Mike Modano among others.
