Do not spend time on social media or texting with friends and family. At the same time, be present with your friends and family. Do not be staring at your phone or checking emails when you should be staring into the eyes of your loved one. Sometimes, your personal and professional life collides, but try to minimize the impact. I recently heard it explained this way: balancing life is like juggling. Everything work-related is a rubber ball, and your personal life is a glass ball. There is only one of these that you can drop and still be able to start juggling again. Keep that in mind always. Also, use technology to become more efficient. This will help you keep your working hours in check; if you are not using an electronic scheduling system, find one that works for your facility. A system that can schedule reoccurring events, track invoices, automate team room scheduling, and post your available schedule online saves you and your customers' time. Many of the systems can also integrate registrations and eliminate many headaches of administrating a skating program or league. Do you find yourself replying to the duplicate 10 basic emails repeatedly? I do, and that is why I created signatures for my most common emails so that I can respond quickly and consistently to customers; now, many times, I have to tailor the message, but making a few small changes saves a lot of time compared to redrafting the duplicate emails over and over. The newest tool in my toolbox is the use of Artificial Intelligence; I view it like a hammer. You can use it to build something, or you can use it to destroy something. I use AI with an application like Grammarly; this is a proofreader I can afford to improve my writing without having another person available to look over my shoulder. I also use AI to help brainstorm and assist in drafting correspondence and memos. 10. Strive for Daily Improvement Don't be too hard on yourself. No one ever gets it right all the time. You may have made missteps in the past, but you can always strive to do better. The only person you need to compare yourself to is who you were yesterday. So when I answer the question, "What motivates you to do a good job?" I can say with confi- dence, "To be the best!"
