The U.S. Department of Defense created the national STOP THE BLEED ® campaign to educate people about how to control bleeding before first responders arrive and take over. Anyone with training can use a simple bleeding control method in everyday emergencies such as a kitchen accident or in a large- scale mass casualty situation such as a shooting. The adult Level I Trauma Center at Froedtert Hospital campus in Milwaukee—the only adult Level I trauma center in eastern Wisconsin—offers free bleeding control training classes to the public. Marc de Moya, MD, trauma surgeon, Medical College of Wisconsin faculty member and chief of the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, supports the STOP THE BLEED training effort for the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network. "Nearly anyone can stop bleeding using the right tools and training. You don't need medical experience," Dr. de Moya said. "Our goal is for everyone to know how to stop the bleed.
