Veterinary students are graduating today without adequate opportunities and/ or time allotted in the curriculum required to gain critical hands-on experience for the clinical skills needed upon entering the workforce. Furthermore, there is a difference between learning and practicing clinical skills in an academic setting vs. learning various approaches to real life situations in a practice setting. V.E.T. works with private practices that volunteer their facility and staff for a day, acting as advisors to teach veterinary students. V.E.T. works with the host practice to create a syllabus and structure a positive learning environment for every lab. When possible, a board member from V.E.T. attends the lab to assist in the instruction as well. Supplies are furnished by the organization for each lab. Beverages, snacks, and lunch are also provided for all attending students and staff. V.E.T. handles all marketing and advertising for the clinical skills wet lab as well as the rsvp's. The number of attendees is dependent upon the host practice, number of available advisors, and subject matter.
