MAY 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 51 ❱ OLYMPIC SPORTS UPDATE The event concluded with individual titles April 6 where sophomore Landen Blixt won the floor exercise and graduate Crew Bold took home the crown on parallel bars. At the end of the event, head coach Yuan Xiao was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third season in a row, while Richard received Gymnast of the Championships honors. Women's Gymnastics The season came to a close April 4 with a third-place finish in the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. Michigan's final score was 196.725. U-M's efforts were led by graduate Gabby Wilson, who earned a share of the regional vault title with a 9.950 and led the all-around with a 39.575. Wilson and graduate Sierra Brooks tied for a season-best 9.25 on the floor, while senior Carly Bauman tied a season-best with 9.950 on uneven bars. The three will head to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete for individual NCAA championships April 18. Men's Lacrosse It was a notable end of March in terms of honors and accolades. Senior Justin Wiedfeldt and graduate Beau Pederson were named Big Ten Specialist of the Week and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, March 26. On March 30, senior Michael Boehm became the U-M career leader in points, goals and assists after scoring 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 total points in a 15-11 loss to No. 8 Johns Hopkins. A week later, Boehm tallied an assist in a 9-7 home loss to Rutgers April 7, bringing his career scoring total up to 218 points (120 goals, 98 assists). Women's Lacrosse Junior Kaylee Dyer scored 4 goals and added a pair of assists, becoming the seventh Wolverine in team history to eclipse 100 career points, in a 15-10 win over No. 22 Penn State April 6. The victory helped fifth-ranked Michigan improve to 13-1 on the year with a 3-1 mark in Big Ten play. Women's Rowing Michigan's first varsity eight (1V8) was named Big Ten Boat of the Week April 2 after a successful season-opening showing. Michigan won both of its races against No. 11 Virginia and No. 15 Duke with a lineup that featured soph- omore Logan Roeder (coxswain), junior Katie Easton, senior Zara Collisson, graduate Adelaide Lammers, sophomore Jana Peachey, graduate Annaka Draa- isma, senior Sarah McKay, junior Abby Hathaway and graduate Aubrey Fitts. The No. 9-ranked Wolverines also swept Michigan State in all seven races held April 6 on Belleville Lake. Swimming And Diving The Wolverine women completed their season March 23 in Athens, Ga., with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, tallying a 147.5-point to- tal. The men closed out their campaign March 30 in Indianapolis with a 14th- place NCAA finish, moving up six spots from their 2023 team result. Virginia and Arizona State won the women's and men's national titles, respectively. Men's Track And Field Graduate Tom Brady set a program record in the 10,000-meter run with a 28:21.89 at the Stanford Invitational March 29, shaving 25 seconds off his previous personal best (28:46.83). Women's Track And Field Freshman Sidney Green grabbed her first Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honor March 28 after a great showing at the Clyde Hart Classic, finishing fifth in 400-meter hurdles with a 58.48 time. The mark was tied for the seventh- fastest in program history, third-best in the Big Ten and No. 14 all time in the NCAA. Wrestling The Wolverines made the podium with a third-place finish (71 points) at the NCAA Championships March 23, earning a team trophy for the second time in three years. Michigan had four All-Americans emerge from the event in graduate Austin Gomez (149 pounds), graduate Lucas Davison (heavyweight), redshirt junior Dylan Ragusin (133) and graduate Shane Griffith (174). Gomez and Davison finished as runners-up in their championship matches, while Griffith and Ragusin finished third and fifth, respectively. Water Polo Following a 13-point weekend at the Michigan Invitational March 23-24, freshman attacker Emma Gustafsson grabbed CWPA Player of the Week hon- ors after tallying 7 goals and 6 assists during the team's 3-1 stretch over the weekend. It is the first Player of the Week honor of her career and the third weekly honor after a pair of Freshman of the Week nods (Jan. 22, Feb. 21). — Anthony Broome On April 5, the Michigan men's gymnastics team grabbed its fourth straight Big Ten championship and 21st in program history, marking the second time in school history it has recorded four straight titles.
