Where’s the BeeF? It’s at the Open Market Steer Classic at 6 p.m. in the beef arena. This show is not limited to “youth only” entries; however; they are encour- aged. The exhibitor will be competing for premium money only. (There will not be a sale for these animals.) Class size will be determined by weight and by number of entries. Minimum class size will be 4 entries. There will be one class for less than 8 entries. Entry fees will be split between the top three places per class: 50, 30 and 20 percent, respectively. Fair premiums of $500 will be split between the top three overall. An entry fee of $25 per head must accompany entry form by deadline of Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. Animals must be on the grounds by 1 p.m. the day of show and will be released following the con- test. Complete entry forms including name, address and phone number are required to facilitate premium payment. The chairman for the committee is René Bradley, who can be reached at 335-2108. horse pullinG history In the early 1900s when farmers utilized horses, can’t you just visualize a farmer telling his neigh- bor. “I bet my horse can pull more than yours can”. Then to prove it, the neighbor would take him up on that bet and soon there would be some competition between several farmers. The EISF Horse Pulling Contest is set for Wednesday, Sept. 9 at the Grandstand Arena. EISF Horse Pulling Superintendent Evan McClain said the horses will begin pulling weight at 3,000 lbs (lights), 3,500 lbs. (middles) and 4,000 lbs. (heavy). Additional weights will be added with the minimum of 300 lbs. each pull. Premiums and trophies will be awarded for best-dressed team, driver showing the most sportsmanship, driver traveling the longest dis- tance to the pull, horsemanship and best hooker. 2009 scorecArd light Weight 1st: Dan Neild, Wyo.: 7000 lbs & 2.9 ft. 2nd: Bob McGowan, Ore.: 7000 lbs & 1.10 ft. 3rd: Palmer Pulling Horses, Utah.: 7000 lbs & 1.1 ft middle Weight: 1st: Josh Neild, WY.
