On the consol under the flat-screen TV, Hazell
has a several photos, including one of him and
now-16-year-old Lauren Loose. Hazell was on
the staff with Loose's father, John, at West Point
and has known her since she was born. She has
been living with a diagnosis of multiple brain and
spinal cord tumors, Neurofibromatosis, Moyamoya disease and Evan´s Syndrome since she was
9-months-old. "She's one of the people that gives
me inspiration every day," Hazell said.
Also on the table with the Loose photo are several framed pictures
with Hazell and his "Musky guys," fellow Muskingum College graduates Jon Gruden, John Glenn and Jack Hanna. Hazell played one
season with Gruden, has had the privilege of speaking with Glenn
and is a good friend of Hanna's, the famous zookeeper. When asked,
Hanna offered his secrets to Hazell on how to keep the motor running
high with all the work and traveling he does: "I force myself to work
out and I take a 20-minute nap every day," he told Hazell. How is
Hazell's progress? "Ah, not so good," he said, laughing. "I'm not
good on either one of them, actually."
