Shoop says offense has developed toughness

fter watching Purdue's end-of-camp jersey
scrimmage Aug. 17, offensive coordinator John
Shoop likes his offense's efficiency.
But he'd like it to be mixing in more big plays, the
only one of significant note in the scrimmage being
an 83-yard bomb from Austin Appleby to DeAngelo
Yancey on the second team.
"There were some opportunities for it that we just
didn't get," the first-year coordinator said. "Overall,
though, I like where we are. I think these guys feel
like they have a chance to be pretty good, but I also
think they feel like they have a lot of work left to do.
And that's probably a good place to be. Feeling good

Following are excerpts from an interview with
Shoop Aug. 18, a day after Purdue's camp came to a
close.
Q: Are there restrictions holding the offense
back from making those big plays? Do you have
the personnel to be able to do what you want?
Shoop: "We love our guys. I think we've got some
explosive players, I really do. We've just got to keep
finding ways to get the ball in their hands and get
some yards after contact and, really, some things
that we are going to point out are some hustle plays.
