are you molding them and what can they be?
Hudson: "The makeup is the willingness to learn
and to take what we're trying to do and apply it to
the field. There's nobody being defiant. They're not
saying, 'Well, this is the way I used to do it.' They've
been very open to the information. Now, we just have
to do it on the field."
Gold and Black: Joe Gilliam's injury forced
you to mix it up with the first-team defense a
bit. How has it been with Will Lucas adjusting
to playing inside and with Jimmy Herman, too.
What like about those guys?
Hudson: "It's feast or famine sometimes. They
make the play or they don't, and when you don't make
it up the middle and you're in a two-deep alignment,
there's a hole there. They can get down Main Street
on you pretty quick. We're getting better at it. We'll
get it figured out."
Gold and Black: How's it been going with (your
son) Garrett?
Hudson: "It's been fun."
Gold and Black: He kind of joked he didn't
know what to call you, 'Dad' or 'Coach,' so he
just says 'hey' when you're on the field.
Hudson: "I said, 'You know what? I'm your dad.
If somebody doesn't like that, too bad.' It's been fun.
He loves it. And I got to go unload stuff in the dorm,
so that was cool. I got to unload a truck. I took some
carpeting up to the dorm, so I did the parent move-in.
If he was at another school, I couldn't do it.
"He's been around football so much, he's an evaluator. So if something is not going good, you would
think he'd be a little more supportive. He'll say something to me, and I'll be like, 'You've been around your
mother a lot' (laughs)." j
