Kerrigan is next
A sandwich paying tribute to the Boilermakers'
most recent football All-American, Ryan Kerrigan is
expected to debut this fall.
And while it may not be as tall as the Boilermaker
Pete, it will be as large.
It's two quarter pound beef patties with cheddar
cheese and chili in between — so not stacked as
high as the triple-decker but certainly as filling. The
idea for the sandwich came from Kerrigan, who frequented Triple XXX a time or two but used to make
this heart-stopper in his apartment.
The Muncie, Ind., native brought the idea to the
Triple XXX staff when approached about the culinary
castle.
"Ryan is about as nice a guy you would ever want
to meet," Ehresman said. "But that is the thing about
this. We don't want to just honor the superstars, we
want to honor the high-character athletes. That is
what it is all about for us."
Ehresman said the sandwich is so big that you will
need a "bib that goes the length of your body. Elbows
out, lean forward is the only instructions I can give
you for eating it."
The restaurant is developing a menu to incorporate more student-athletes, both male and female,
from all sports.
For now, Olympic gold medalist diver David Boudia is the only non-football player to honored on the
menu.
Ehresman said he has talked to Robbie Hummel
several times and thinks something might be in the
works with the men's hoops standout.
"Outside of celebrating high-quality student-athletes both on and off the field, we also want to celebrate those that have made part of their college experience coming into Triple XXX," Ehresman said. "We
want them to love us as much as we love them." j
