GUESTLIST 5 7 www.guestlist.net Issue 54 / 2013 NEWS FLASH S EW EVI R HIP HOP Kanye sold 500k! All seven Kanye studio albums have now gone at least gold after Yeezus sold 500K just two months after release. Indie Exposure - Drenge Rolling stones @ Hyde Park, British summertime fest After The Rolling Stones' sold out 50th anniversary shows late last year, they announced a headline gig in Hyde Park. It was the first time they had performed there since 1969- where they played on a stage no bigger than a truck, barely visible from the rear of the audience. No doubt they had a lot to live up to. As always they ran on stage and jumped straight into 'Start Me Up', a favourite with all Stones fans. In fact the set list was completely spot on, and after Mick recalled the releasing of the insects in commemoration of Brian Jones' tragic death, they dived back into their classics from 'Jumping Jack Flash' and 'It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)' to the final encore of 'Satisfaction', and their single 'Doom and Gloom' from the latest album 'Grrr!' which proved that they can still write awesome new material. The atmosphere, as you can imagine, was incredible, especially at the climax with 'Sympathy For The Devil', they put on as fantastic a show as they did all those years ago. Sheffield brothers Rory and Eoin Loveless' debut album self titled Drenge LP is forecasted to blow and the rough rock blues duo are certain to take the industry by storm. DNB Rudimental and Bi Polar Sunshine have joined forces and spawned a brand new track. The track is called 'Distance' and is the product of a new creative project called 'Bacardi Beginnings'. In just 24 hours, these like minded artists were thrown together to create this unique track. The video is sick! Frank OCEAN @ Brixton O2 The killers @ t in the park The Killers opened with crowd favourite 'Somebody Told Me' and the energy was there, beginning to end, the atmosphere amongst the crowd was clearly electric. 'Spaceman' followed 'Somebody Told Me' and 'The Way It Was.' 'For Reasons Unknown' and 'Smile Like You Mean It' were also played. Sunset and darkness grew over the festival and the wellknown song 'I Think We're Alone Now' by Tiffany was then covered. Another cover followed this; a section of 'Side' by Travis was performed as though it was a song of their own. 'All These Things I've Done' was a huge song on their set and to conclude, 'When You Were Young' and the classic 'Mr Brightside' were performed. As the opening chords to 'Mr Brightside' were played the crowd were on a high and came close to out singing Brandon. Odd Future star, Frank Ocean took to the stage at the Brixton O2 to perform his Channel Orange album live. The crowd went in with high hopes and were blown away with his performance. Ocean certainly made a lasting impression in Brixton that night. Singing from his first studio album, it wasn't just the flawless and effortless singing from Frank that made the performance. Frank is a great entertainer on stage and he kept the crowd buzzing with excitement. A highlight of the night, was when Frank's vocals were put to the test as Frank sang probably his most famous track, 'Swim Good' fully acapella. Note perfect and with a smile on his face the whole time. Ocean is definitely one to see live. Amazing voice and amazing stage presence. What a night! RNB Jill Scott has been busy working on two new albums. The first of these is to be called The Lullaby Album and, according to Scott, "is intended to help you sleep". Scott has not given away the name of the second album but has said it to be very different to what her fans have heard before. We cannot wait to hear this one! www.guestliSt.net/tv See who has been dropping in with us! Noisettes Wu-Tang MK youtube channel "Guestlist"
