DRUM & 32 guestlist.net BASS / DUBSTEP Artist of the month Enter Compa Issue 55 / 2013 Event review: MistaJams Speakerbox @ Creamfields It is becoming hard to find original, exciting dubstep in the original sense of the word – profound and complex electronic music with mind-blowing bass. Since many new releases in the genre consist of mutated styles and sounds, however interesting and laudable they are, true-skool dubsteppers have found allegiance with the genre increasingly difficult to uphold. Enter Compa. Compa arrived on the scene in the past couple of years and is one of the few artists currently standing on the cutting edge of dubstep and bass music, injecting new life back into a flagging community and proving that dubstep doesn't need the blessing of dubstep godfather Skream, who recently denounced the genre, to go on. This is dubstep for those who want music which intricately evokes a place and a feeling rather than mindlessly whipping you into a frenzy - for those who listen for the music rather than the party. Album of the month: Lost & Found It was kick-kick-kicking off with the drums and the bass in the Mistajam presents Speakerbox tent at Creamfields 2013! With a heavy live performance from Subfocus and other massive appearances from Modestep, SHY FX, Friction and Mistajam, it was most certainly popping off in this tent! Playing in the earlier stages of the night, SHY FX got the crowd going cray cray, as he bashed out some of his classics like 'Original Nuttah.' Following SHY FX's heavy set, the stench of ganja had most definitely filled the air by the time Friction began churning out ridiculous bass frequencies. Modestep were next to rinse it with their debut appearance at Creamfields, which went down a real treat. To fire up the bass heads and leave the end of Creamfields festival on a massive high, Subfocus' headlining set became somewhat of a work-out as it had the ravers skankin' out hard to the dark twisted sounds of bass!
