From a second floor window, she watched flood waters rush out the blown-out basement windows, carrying with it 25 years of family photos and other treasures that had been lovingly packed away for safekeeping. "All that stuff is lost," she said. Wedding photos, baby keepsakes and 20 years of Legos are a few of the sentimental items lost during last month's Front Range flood; in addition to significant property loss including cars, furnishings, flooring and music equipment. "Ninety-nine percent of the basement had to be thrown out," she said. "I couldn't look." In spite of losing "stuff," JoAnn, her husband, Kenny, and their six children feel fortunate and are grateful for the help they have received from the Catholic community. Barham shared their story with the Denver Catholic Register Oct. 1. Sept. 12 began with a light drizzle, she said. Kenny headed to work; their youngest children, ages 12 and 9, were set to begin a day of home-schooling; the middle two, 18 and 15, prepared to go to their community college classes; and the two oldest, 23 and 21, were in Boulder where they are students at the PHOTO PROVIDED JOANN AND KENNY BARHAM, parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center in Boulder, have spent the last few weeks—with help from the Catholic community—cleaning up their Longmont home following last month's Front Range flooding. Around 9 a.m. the news showed photos of nearby Airport Road covered with water. "I went outside to walk HEALTH Mental health and faith to merge at upcoming conference around and eyeball it myself," she said of their west Longmont neighborhood, The Greens, where they've lived 10 years. What she discovered: three houses down a city worker was standing in rising, rushing water. Panicked, she returned home where she and her children began moving what they could up from the 900 square foot basement. But the basement filled quickly. A wall of water turned their street into a river, eliminating the possibility of leaving by car. The faithful are invited to reflect on the moments of Christ's life that are "joyful," "sorrowful," "luminous" and "glorious," with his mother, Mary. The month of October is dedicated to the most holy rosary and the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7. —Denver Catholic Biblical and Catechetical schools
