St. Cloud State University remodeled and renamed its rink to honor legendary Herb Brooks. BROOKS' LEGACY CONTINUES AT ST. CLOUD Herb Brooks left his mark on the St. Cloud State University hockey program, getting it built from the ground up. Now SCSU is continuing to build with Brooks' name, expanding the former National Hockey Center and renaming it the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in Brooks' honor. The newly renovated building gives a modernized look to the facilities, along with new elevators, a new entrance on the south side of the building and a new team store. Athletes will be treated to new and improved training facilities and locker room areas. Herb Brooks National Hockey Center will make its remodeled debut with the SCSU men's game against Bemidji State on Oct. 11. HOCKEY DAY MINNESOTA SCHEDULE SET Get ready for winter, the annual Hockey Day Minnesota matchups are set for the State of Hockey's celebration day on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. Minnesota Hockey, Fox Sports North and the Minnesota Wild announced the schedule for Handke Pit, Elk River as follows: • 10:15 a.m. Rochester Lourdes vs. Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (boys) • 1 p.m. Elk River vs. Stillwater (boys) • 4 p.m. Elk River vs. Anoka (girls) • 5 p.m. Minnesota Gophers men's hockey vs. Ohio State (at Mariucci) • 8 p.m. Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars (at Xcel Energy Center) 1.888.417.SHOT october.2013 // minnesotahockeyjournal.com 05
