That's one thing that doesn't
waver, no matter the circumstance: Hazell's belief in his system, in his plan.
Tweaks will continue to be
made to try to get the offense
untracked or the defense fitting
on its assignments but not to the
plan.
"It's difficult no matter
whether you lose by one or 55.
It doesn't matter, especially if
you're (a) competitive person,"
Hazell said. "You want to win.
It's always hard when you're not
winning, but you've got to keep
working the process. We'll find
a way out of it. I'm confident of
that. I'm confident in our football coaches, and in the direction
that we will be heading and are
heading." j
This Week In Purdue History
Nov. 8, 1980 • Quarterback Mark Herrmann and the
Boilermaker offense explode with a 58-13 win over Iowa.
Herrmann, who tossed for a then Purdue record and
career-best 439 yards, helped the Boilermakers to their
highest point total since putting 62 points on Boston University in 1947 in a game played at Fenway Park.
Nov. 7, 1998 • Quarterback Drew Brees has his second
six-touchdown passing performance of his career with a
56-21 win at Northwestern. That season, the Boilermakers
recovered from a 3-4 start to win their last six games of the
year, something that has only been done once before in
the last 50 years of Purdue football as the 1979 team won
its last seven straight contests.
Nov. 9, 2002 • Unranked Purdue nearly upsets thirdranked Ohio State until Craig Krenzel
finds Michael Jenkins on a 37-yard
scoring pass that catapults the Buckeyes to a 10-6 victory. Purdue had
control of the game for all but the last
1:36 when the Buckeye lightning bolt
eventually delivered the Scarlet and
Gray to the national championship.
