Feichter Coming Back BY GOLD AND BLACK STAFF Bynotnature,to Landon Feichter's one take sitting on the sideline easily. The junior safety wants to be on the field with his teammates, battling to try to get the Boilermakers headed back in the right direction. He's likely to have that opportunity against Iowa Saturday, when he returns from a broken leg and partially torn deltoid that cost him the last six games. "This is what I've been looking forward to since Sept. 7," Feichter said after practice on Tuesday. "Being out, you really realize how bad it sucks that you can't be on the field. It was pretty hard. Just being able to go out and be with the seniors one last time. They only get a few more snaps, and being able to play a few more plays with them, it's exciting. I'm very excited." Feichter's season didn't get off to the start he envisioned. First, against Cincinnati in the opener, he suffered breaks to both of his hands. Yet he tried to play a week later, against Indiana State, with both wrapped heavily. But Feichter didn't last, breaking a leg while making a tackle against the Sycamores in Purdue's only win of the season. The injury required surgery, leaving him to rehab the last two months. "It's a lot of will from him, first of all to even want to come back from all that," tight end Justin Sinz said. "When you have two broken hands and a broken leg that has a pin put in it, a lot of guys might just say, 'Well, I'm going to rehab the rest of the year and take the year to come back strong for my senior year.' It's just a testament to his will and want-to to get back on the field. "He loves football and is one of our best players and best leaders. We obviously missed him these last seven weeks." Feichter, Purdue's leading tackler in 2012, has practiced this week but in a limited fashion, not getting the full reps during team game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis next season, as part of Notre Dame's neutral site Shamrock Series, but those details aren't confirmed. "Jack (Swarbrick) and I are still working," Burke said of the ND athletic director, speaking on Gold and Black LIVE. "When we announce it, we'll announce a Tom Campbell Landon Feichter, who has missed the last six games with a broken leg, is expected to make his return against the Hawkeyes on Saturday. drills. But Darrell Hazell says Feichter will play as much as he's able. "We haven't put a number (of plays) on it yet, but we'll see how it goes," Hazell said. "If he feels really good, we'll let him play." ND Series To Continue? Although final details have to be worked out, athletic director Morgan Burke says Purdue and Notre Dame are close to coming to an agreement that will continue the rivals' series. The deal might include a Jamie Bissett—Ottawa, Ontario. Junior, General Health Sciences (Pre-Med) Jamie was one of 39 Purdue student-athletes honored as Distinguished Scholar Award recipients by the Big Ten in July. In all, four members of the 2013 Men's Swimming and Diving team were named to the list. GoldanDBlack express • volume 24, express 9  •  26
