Jack 1. Ryan Russell 99 RB 1 Bill Belton 28 Zach Zwinak 5-10, 205, Jr. 6-1, 240, Jr. 6-5, 270, Jr. 25 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks* Russell had three tackles, as he's been slow to adjust to his new Jack role. Sometimes, you wish he just played with more recklessness. Collin Link had a great game, leading Purdue with seven tackles and having a sack, the second of his career. He's limited athletically but makes up for it with his motor. FB 35 Pat Zerbe 6-1, 231, Sr. 2. Jalani Phillips 89 TE 87 Kyle Carter OR 18 Jesse James 6-3, 243, So. 6-7, 257, So. Bruce Gaston Jr. 90 2. Ra'Zahn Howard 93 6-5, 260, Sr. 23 tackles, 0.5 TFL, 2 PBU* The Boilermakers couldn't stop Iowa's rushing attack, which racked up 318 yards. Much of that came when the Hawkeyes simply pushed Purdue's D-line off the line of scrimmage. Latta had three tackles, but wasn't able to set the edge often enough to direct Hawkeyes back toward the middle. Nose Guard 1. Ryan Isaac 61 2. Jake Replogle 54 6-4, 292, Sr. 14 tackles, 0.5 TFL, 1 int.* Howard continues to impress, collecting a sack when he engulfed Jake Rudock after shedding his blocker. The freshman makes some technical mistakes, but he's such a raw talent it's hard to not see his potential. This week, however, he's battled illness, causing him to miss practice and leaving him questionable for Penn State. Isaac also was limited with a shoulder injury. 6-3, 315, Fr. Middle Linebacker 1. Sean Robinson 10 6-3, 240, Jr. 36 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 PBU* Robinson turned in a solid game against the Hawkeyes, once darting through the line of scrimmage to make a tackle for loss on an Iowa running back. It was one of his three tackles. Ibarra added a tackle, as well. 2. Ruben Ibarra 6 5-10, 192, Jr. 47 tackles, 0.5 TFL, 2 PBU, 1 FF* Richards had six tackles and a breakup, the latter coming on a third-down attempt inside Purdue territory. A play later, Ra'Zahn Howard had his fourth-down sack. 2. Anthony Brown 9 5-11, 192, So. 6-4, 240, Fr. Weakside Linebacker 1. Joe Gilliam 39 6-1, 225, Jr. 24 tackles, 1 TFL, 3 PBU, 1 FR* Gilliam had only one tackle, a sign that Iowa's offensive line was getting to the second level and keeping Purdue's linebackers from getting close to its running backs. The Boilermakers need to be better here, or teams will continue to make big yardage on the ground. 6-1, 234, Sr. 2. Will Lucas 45 Strong Safety 1. Anthony Brown 9 Cornerback 1. Frankie Williams 24 6-4, 256, Jr. Free Safety 1. Taylor Richards 4 6-2, 310, Sr. 35 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 3 sacks* Gaston's been quieter this season than many would have predicted, due in part to numerous double teams. He was so against Iowa, when he had only two tackles. Like on the opposite side, Purdue couldn't set the edge to force rushers back to the heart of the defense; instead, the Boilers gave up heaps of rushing yardage. 5-11, 192, So. 51 tackles, 2 TFL, 3 PBU, 1 FF* The silver-lining in Feichter's injury has been Brown, who has gotten more experience and is Purdue's leading tackler. It'll give the Boilermakers three experienced safeties next season. Landon Feichter returned to play for the first time since Week 2 and had two tackles. 2. Landon Feichter 44 6-0, 188, Jr. –OR– Rob Henry 22 6-1, 205, Sr. (5) 5-9, 185, So. 46 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 int., 2 PBU* Williams had six tackles, as Purdue's four starting defensive backs occupied four of the top five spots in the final statistics sheet for tackles. That's not the sign of a positive defensive game. 6-0, 180, Sr. 5-9, 186, Sr. 35 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 sack, 3 int., 2 PBU* Allen had four tackles, two of them after an Iowa rush of nine yards. Those aren't the kind of tackles Purdue wants its defensive backs to be making. After making a couple of starts, Clark has been playing only in a reserve role. 2. Leroy Clark 3 5-10, 175, Fr. 5-11, 236, Sr. 2. Normondo Harris 1 Cornerback 1. Ricardo Allen 21 Nickel Back 1. Antoine Lewis 26 5-10, 185, Jr. 16 tackles, 1 PBU* Lewis is slated in as Purdue's nickel back, but he's not the only one playing there. Logan has taken snaps. So has Feichter, who is one of the Boilermakers' more physical players and likes mixing it up near the line of scrimmage. 2. Austin Logan 5 6-0, 190, Fr.
