Correspondence Dear Laura, We had a wonderful time too! It was a pleasure seeing you and all of the folks who attended the November issue launch party at Strega Prime. We wouldn't be where we are without all of you! IMAGINATION IN RESIDENCE Resource Rag BRIMMING WITH MORE THAN A MILLION REPRESENTATIONS OF ARTISTIC INGENUITY, THE LAUDED PEABODY ESSEX MUSEUM IS PREMIER AMONG THE NORTH SHORE'S CULTURAL OFFERINGS. WORDS BY KILEY JACQUES PHOTOS BY MICHAEL BASU Award Worthy PEM curators juxtapose contemporary pieces, like those by Nick Cave (foreground), with works representing traditional techniques. 198 199 '' i just finished reading [the] story on pem ["imagination in residence," page 198] and wanted to say how well i thought you captured the difference of the place." Stephanie Seacord, via e-mail First Response I just finished reading [the] story on PEM ["Imagination in Residence," page 198] and wanted to say how well I thought you captured the difference of the place. My friend Craig Tuminaro, who was at Historic New England in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is now director of guest services [at Peabody Essex Museum], prompted me to see the Yin Yu Tang house when I visited for the Fabergé exhibit. What a singular experience to stand inside the wooden boxes, [which serve as] rooms [and see]…the contrast between the organized Fabergé presentation…and the house that you explain in your interview. Stephanie Seacord, via e-mail $ share your thoughts on northshore content: kiley@rmsmg.com nshore mag.com Dear Stephanie, I am happy to know that the spirit of PEM came through in my words. The place is of such importance and is such a gem of an institution that I was a bit intimidated by the subject! I very much wanted to express the respect I feel for the place and its staff, while also inspiring residents and out-of-town visitors to go experience it. Additionally, I was honored to speak with Chief Curator Lynda Hartigan, who is one of the smartest, most insightful, and articulate women I have had the privilege of interviewing; it is people like her that make me love my work! The Morning After How fun was that? Strega Prime and Northshore were on fire! [The November] issue is as haute as the décor at Strega. Everything was perfect and the swag bag is sweet! Laura Gifford, via e-mail Thank you for providing…great information about the best places around the North Shore. Recently, we had family visiting from out of town. They used your magazine to guide them to great restaurants, new shopping, and even fun spots to take the kids. Keep up the good work and, as always, we are looking forward to your next issue! Kara Liberman, via e-mail More Please I had to write to thank you for the article on Mary McGarry Morris ["A Not-SoDistant Star," page 52]. As an avid book reader, it was nice to make a North Shore connection with a book and an author I had not known before (shame on me!). Add to that the "Novel Nosh" with some delicious cookies to consider for a book club, and it was the perfect article. Please keep them coming—it is a great addition to the magazine! Debbie Street, via e-mail Dear Debbie, I will be sure to share the compliment with the story's author. There is some discussion among staff members about including a regular book review. I will add your vote to the pile of those that have been cast. Corrections In the November issue's Food Review ("New Customs," page 22) we misspelled chef Doug Papows' name. The photo credit for "Savvy Sips," page 30, should have read: "Owner of Leary's Fine Wine & Spirits Todd Baltich holds a favorite." The Potato Rossi recipe ("Try These On for Sides," page 65) calls for 2 tbsp. of flour, not 2 lbs. 16 nshoremag.com December 2013 Dec13 Letters.indd 16 10/25/13 1:31 PM
