6 GUESTLIST guestlist.net Issue 57 / 2013 TUNING IN: INTABEATS DNB CLUB VS CLUB KOKO CONCRETE 1A Camden High St, London, NW1 7JE For those who don't know, Bailey, who has moved on from the BBC but has moved onto better things, is hosting his weekly show on Ministry of Sound radio from 5-7pm every Tuesday! Playing the best and latest drum n bass. It's perfect for devoted fans or anyone new to the scene! In his show, Bailey brings a mix of mix of new music, the 5 hottest tracks in record stores each week, the latest news in the scene as well as some classic tunes that will take you back! This guy is an icon and you can learn a lot just by tuning in each and every week. LABEL OF THE MONTH SCYLLA RECORDS Lower ground floor, 56 Shoreditch High St, London, E1 6JJ Events Koko is well known for its live gigs and DJ sets, and up coming events will be no less exciting. Some of these include live bass music sevenpiece, Submotion Orchestra, who play on Friday 15th, as well as Tosca, the lovechild of downtempo deity, Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber the very next day. The week after, Reef will be joining Koko as part of their 20th anniversary tour. As you can tell, the venue is perfect for every possible genre that takes the stage here, although some say the club nights outweigh acoustic gigs. Events Located under a pizza parlour in Shoreditch, Concrete provides some of the best hip hop, house, drum & bass and dubstep nights in East London. There's also the semi-regular comedy night and musical bingo, which this month will be taking on a special Movember theme to raise money for the great cause. Nights generally happen between Wednesday and Saturday every week, with door prices of around £6. Drinks The price of a pint at Koko is roughly £3.90 which is pretty good. Those who've splashed out too much on tickets may want to predrink before coming out due to prices being extortionate otherwise in terms of spirits and mixers. Vibes Koko's décor could rival any 19th century theatre, the layout can make even the most uptight visitor want to loosen up. The building is an enchanted mystery on the corner of Mornington Crescent; an unlikely spot for such inspiring design. Atmosphere tends to be dependent on the event but every gig brings its crowds, and these brighten up every dark corner in the place. Drinks Concrete have sexy cocktails ranging from £8 upwards but, for the most part, they are on the pricey side. For anything fancy, you're sure to be forking out a tenner a time. Points go to originality, but if you have little money to spare this won't be the night for you. Vibes To all bass heads: dubstep nights here have the stone pillars in this cosy underground lair shaking every time. It's dark and dingy with low ceilings and is perfect for losing yourself in your favourite music. The regulars tend to be locals just looking for a hassle-free, friendly night out, with the up close DJs and tight knit crowds ,this place definitely delivers. It feels like a secret party that everyone is invited to. With a buzzing music scene in pretty much every genre and great transport links worldwide, why set up anywhere else. One of those labels who have found a home in this great city is Scylla Records. Scylla is a label, which focuses on Indie/ Rock music, with alumni such as, Out of Sight, Just Surrender and Francesqa. However it's not their previous acts that make this label exciting it's their current roster. Hello Lazarus released their debut earlier this year gaining great reviews from RockSound, Big Cheese and Kerrang! Having spent the start of the year touring and headlining the Scylla Records tour, they've started growing a strong fanbase and were hailed by Ringmaster as being as essential as Lower Than Atlantis and Biff y Clyro. Their other acts Scream Shout, Sleeping Lessons and The October Game are also making their way in the scene with the The October Game having recently released their new album 'Balancing', with singles being played on Kerrang! Radio. If you want new, up and coming music this is a label to keep an eye on.
