1 2 3 news Dr. Pamela Goodwin: 25 years of breast cancer breakthroughs October 2013 marked the 25th anniversary of Dr. Pamela Goodwin's paradigm-shifting contributions to breast cancer care and research at Mount Sinai Hospital. An acclaimed clinician-scientist, Dr. Goodwin is the Director of Mount Sinai's Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre, a Senior Investigator at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and the Marvelle Koffler Chair in Breast Research. Her work focuses on 'host factors' — the unique characteristics of each woman — and how those factors might predispose her to developing the disease and alter the clinical course of breast cancer once it has developed. Dr. Goodwin's pivotal research has drastically changed the current Dr. Pamela Goodwin understanding of breast cancer risk. She was the first to show a connection between insulin levels and the risk of breast cancer recurrence and is currently leading the largest clinical trial in the world to investigate the use of a commonly used diabetes medication and its potential to improve survival for women with early-stage breast cancer. "It is difficult to articulate the enormity with which Dr. Goodwin has changed what we know about this disease," says Joseph Mapa, President and CEO of Mount Sinai Hospital. "She asks the right questions and then finds the answers that change everything. Her work will continue impacting women and families all over the world for many years to come." Remembering three of Mount Sinai's best infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. With his calm authority, Dr. Low led Toronto and the rest of the country through the SARS crisis, making sense of a highly complex situation that impacted so many Canadians. Dr. Pawson was a giant in the world of medical research. A truly brilliant scientist and leader at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, his research revolutionized our understanding of the way our cells communicate and impacted the treatment of a range of diseases.
