Because it appears to be inexpensive, and it's a liquid
that can just be conveniently poured directly into the pool.
Be careful when handling it. Like all chlorines it's a
very strong bleach. Spill it on your clothes and they are
irreparable.
Household bleach is often around 3% or less of available
chlorine. Check the label. Have you ever spilt it on your
clothes? Then you know how strong it is.
Now the strength of liquid chlorine is between 10 and 12%
which means what? Pool Chlorine can be up to 4 or 5
times stronger.
It is usually available in 5Litre, 10Litre 15Litre and 20 Litre
containers. It is very heavy so take care when lifting.
This means between 88% and 90% of what is in the
container is water!
Compare this to Granular Chlorine 70% available chlorine
or Stabilised Chlorine 65% available chlorine.
I'll let you do the maths.
Be aware that Liquid Chlorine loses its strength if stored
for long periods.
