ne Lynnfield Reedy Meadow, which is among the largest freshwater cattail marshes in the Commonwealth, is considered an "Important Bird Area" by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Lorraine Sacco, Lynnfield resident and director of the Lynnfield-based charity organization Reid's Ride, says that she made a "great lifetime decision" when she moved to the small North Shore town 30 years ago. "I loved its historical charm and quaint old-town feel. More importantly, it was, and continues to be, a community that has maintained an active interest in keeping good old-fashioned family values," says Sacco. "Lynnfield families have always been proactive in maintaining a competitive school system, and its residents always pull together to assure that all its children's needs are met." Sacco adds that Lynnfield has been instrumental in the success of Reid's Ride, an annual charity bike ride that begins at Lynnfield High School. The 28-mile bikea-thon raises money for the fight against adolescent and young adult cancers in honor of Sacco's son, Reid, a Lynnfield swimming star who lost his life to cancer at age 20. "Little did I know 30 years ago that the uniquely kind and caring character of the Lynnfield community would impact me and my family in an unimaginable way," Sacco says. "Lynnfield and its neighboring communities have come together to make a profound difference in the wellbeing of adolescents and young adults with cancer." The 200th anniversary celebration also promises to bring people together. It will feature at least one event per month, Snow Day Tubing at Amesbury Sports Park.
