She was no quitter this woman and after days of what seemed like never ending paperwork the day eventually came to take him home. She believed her needs would finally be fulfilled. By the time all the paperwork had been checked and ticked off it was dusk and time to leave. Gingerly she walked to where he patiently waited; she shook the hand of the boss of the institution and thanked him for his help. His heart beat steadily with anticipation, his eyes that had been so dim for so long seemed to light up the darkness. In order to impress this woman who was about to take him from this place forever, his fine young body had been scrubbed and pampered until it gleamed. How they both sparkled under the fluorescent lights of the car yard, she with pride as she took charge of her beautiful new Nissan and he with the thought that he could finally commence his journey. His boot was full of the toys she had bought him. Sheepskin seat covers, new mats, a first aid kit, a car cover and numerous cleaning and polishing products. Naturally she had shod his feet with brand new shiny nineteen inch mag wheels. Together they drove into the darkness now lit up by the glow from his eyes. He a brand new much desired speed machine. She, someone who recognised him for what he was. She called him JR. ©Copyright Kathy Ralph Page | 14
